The Sheltowee Trace Association will offer a introductory class on backpacking for men and women, boys and girls, November 10 -11, on the Sheltowee in Cave Run Recreation Area, near Morehead, Ky.

This overnight backpacking course will provide first time backpackers (men and women) with a solid foundation for backpacking on your own. Learn about;

•gear essentials,
•loading a pack efficiently,
•read trail maps,
•basic outdoor cooking techniques,
•and Leave No Trace backcountry practices
all while having a great time and enjoying the company of a group of adventurous women.

You’ll put these important skills to work as you hike and camp on the Sheltowee Trace in the Cave Run Recreation Area.

Distance not to exceed 5.5 miles per day or 1,500 feet elevation gain. Hike rating: Moderate.

The instructors will contact you five days in advance of the trip with final details and a suggested gear list. We encourage you to use your own gear, however the STA staff may be able to help you acquire items you are missing.

The Saturday evening meal and Sunday breakfast will be cooked as a group, but participants should pack their own lunches and snacks. Experienced backcountry instructors and guides will lead your weekend.

Limit:10.
Fee: $30.00 for non-member and $25.00 for members.
Registration Deadline is November 3
