Friends, the Trace in many places crosses private land. Most places you will not see signs letting you know you are on private land but you might pass through a gate or cross a fence. Got notice today that the fence wire across the Trace coming onto the Clark property south of Dry Branch has been left open twice in the last few days and the cows that graze up there on the pipeline grass have gotten out.

The Trace in this area is on private property and the owner is a strong supporter of the STA and the Trace. But we need to do our part and secure the fence closing as we pass through. Right now it is a couple strands of barbed wire that you just have to hook back on the post. We must be considerate of the private land owners or we risk loosing access and loss of trail.

Our long term solution is to get a second swing gate in there so that all users will have access and we can secure the farmers field and the cows stay put. We hope to make this happen in the next few days.

Please be considerate and help us keep the Trace open and accessible. Thanks.

We saw this on our hike through on the 22nd of June, and the wire was unlooped. We looped it back. There should be a sign, for certain.

New gate is up. signs are on order. Thanks to Scott Templeton, STA treasurer for quick response. Mr. Clark is happy. Now if folks will just hook the chain and close the gate behind them we are set. Here is a photo.
