Date: Saturday, June 25

Time: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

Location: Meet at Holly Fork Trailhead on Holly Fork Rd. From Morehead you can get to Holly Fork Rd by using the Big Perry Rd or US Rt. 799 turning right on Holly Fork at the base of the hill. From I-64 Morehead interchange, take Rt 32 toward Fleimingsburg, turning right on Cranston Rd (Rt 377) following this to the intersecton of Rt 799 where you turn right then almost immediately (at the curve) left onto Holly Fork Rd.

The crew will be divided (if we have enough volunteers) with one part working the trail from I-64 to Holly Fork and the other crew working from Dry Branch to Holly Fork.

Work will include debris removal, tree removal, weed removal etc.

Dress for the weather. Plenty of water at the site but bring a water bottle etc. Lunch is a good idea if you are going to make a day of it.

For more info, email director@sheltoweetrace.org

If my schedule allows I may stay on the trail for 3 or 4 days working on this. The Dry Branch to Holly Fork section is only a couple of miles but the Holly Fork to I-64 is a bit longer. If anyone is interested in camping/working with me for a few days please let me know.

I'll try to post my plans for sure in a day or two.

The rain is killing us for weed control and work. At this rate Mother Nature is going to take back the trail if we don't start cutting and clearing weeds. Never seen so much rain. Maybe I can come out with you for a few days. Email me or post plans. I want to get the trees that are down at Northern Terminus end cut out this week for sure. Was hoping to run the mower down the trail maybe as well and maybe clear some potential camping spots and mark them.

Its already looking flakey for my camping/working idea. I have only managed to get one hour of work done today due to repeated thunderstorms with way more lightening than I am comfortable working in. At this rate I may never get anything done here this week. This years rainfall is ridiculous.

Yep, me to. To much time in doors on the computer. But I did get my chainsaw cleaned - carb cleaned out - chain sharp. Now if it would stop raining I can get some firewood cut for winter around the farm.

I've lost almost 40% of my spring hay cutting due to all this rain. I'm just cutting it down in hopes I may get a decent fall cutting to get through the winter with. Still a lot of pasture work to do that has fallen behind schedule. How much I get done here at home always dictates how much time I can spend working or hiking the Sheltowee. Sad

I've decided against staying on the trail for 3 or 4 days with this work outing. There is just too much to get caught up on and the rain is really slowing things down. I may try again in another week or so.

Thanks Dune for coming out to help. Jim, weather is a problem all the way around. See you tomorrow for a great day on the trail. Maybe try and come out in July for our overnight hike down at Spurlock Trailhead on US 60.

Thank you to our Ridge Runner Trail Crew for their hard work on Sat., June 25. They cleared five miles of the Sheltowee Trace from Dry Branch to I-64. Stewart Jones from Ewing, Bob and Elsie Pritchard from Morehead, Tommy and Derrick Davidson, Megan and Jeremy Boone, Carl and Carrie Stambaugh and Jim Doyle are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to keeping the Sheltowee Trace open for you and I to enjoy. Thanks crew.

It was a good day for trail work. Dune is now on a first name basis with the hand powered weed whacker. Smile

We built some very temporary makeshift steps to get up the bank of the creek bed where all those fallen trees had blocked the trail. We need to look into a more viable solution to that spot.

We really need folks to get out and hike this section. As I.B.Me says, " The best way to maintain the trail is to use it"

Yea Jim I got well aquainted with that weed whacker, still not as good as you though. Next time I call dibs on the gas powered weed whacker.

Gas powered!!!! Rolling Eyes You can't get any good exercise with a gas powered weed whacker Wink

I figure once you use my weed whacker for another six miles of trail you will be a real pro.
