We have a group planning a hike from Pickett State Park to Stearns and then driving up to Noes Boat Ramp and hiking from Noes to S-Tree. I called the folks at Pickett S.P. and was told that they have been getting reports from hikers that there are alot of trees down across the trails for several miles due to the recent storms across the south. I would like to hear from anyone that has hiked the sourthern area and /or the area between Laurel Lake and S-Tree Camp Ground in the past couple of weeks.

Yes there are trees down. But that should not stop you. Adjust your daily miles to allow for time to get past these blockages.

The STA just sponsored a women's hike on the section from Bark Camp Creek to Laurel Lake Dam. The ladies reported serious number of trees down and some significant blockages. From S-tree to Turkeyfoot things are much better. Is the whole trail blocked? No but there will be stretches and given the large number of trees down, it will be a while before they are all cleared.

Download our trailcheck 2011 Trail summary from our website www.sheltoweetrace.org / trailcheck2011. It has the latest info.

Don't be discouraged. Go on and hike and let us know what you find.
