I have grown up hiking In the Daniel Boone National Forest and when I discovered that there was a long continuous trail I knew I had to do it. Two summers ago a friend and I took on the Trace and completed it going from North to South. Thinking back we realized that the Sheltowee was a complicated patchwork of trails, gravel and paved roads that catered to many different enthusiasts and begged for better documentation.
During my Sophmore year of Berea college I took a class in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and starting learning about differnt types of spatial information. I immediatly thought about how this would be useful in my outdoor activities. Being a technology major I drew up a proposal for an independent study in the field of technology and am now enrolled in Tec 390A for the summer of 2005. I have included a copy of the proposal for those who are interested in the details.
Be on the watch for frequent changes.
I will be updateing photo galleries, journal entries, and GPS information continuiously throughout the summer.
