In 2008 the Cumberland District pulled together various user groups and along with a facilitator met several times to discuss issues and problems with trail usage in the Cave Run area. A report was issue and I have attached it here.

If you plan on attending the September Future of The Trace Conference, I encourage you to read this report and its conclusions. Please remember that a report like this must clear the NEPA process, the environmental review, which can take some time. I would ask you to read the report and let it be a foundation from which we can move forward as an association.

Friends its time to put aside our past differences and start anew. There is a new Forest Supervisor, new personnel as the district ranger level, new participants from other user groups and lots of new folks coming into this meeting, who will not have the same issues as those of you who have worked and sweated to keep The Trace going up to this point.

We value your contributions and your hard work has gotten us to this point and we want your participation to continue. This is no time to quit and let up. Public awareness and participation is the best way we can make sure that all the trails in Ky are open and remain open.

But friends, we must move forward and promote a spirit of compromise and understanding if we are to achieve our goals for The Sheltowee Trace.

Again, a big thanks to all of you who have been in past dialogues with the USFS, the state and the NPS. We walk on paths you have created and we honor you and look forward to your council in the years ahead.

Forward now at the quick step,
steve "traildust"

That took a little while to read Smile It was interesting though. I wonder what this effort has led to in actual practice??? Are the trails being maintained and repaired? Are they being monitored at the levels the group recommended? Has the FS acquired the hand tools and other equipment needed? Are the various user groups following the recommendations made by this working group?

So many questions; so little time Smile
