Miles: 2.4
Short day to Yamacraw Bridge passing ford of Rock Creek and first turtle in the Big Turtle trail. Poison Ivy abounds scattered with patches of nettles and jewelweed. Met Cumberland River and followed alongside to bridge crossing where we gained the back of the pick-up hitch-hike into Whitley City, the main town in this part of southern Kentucky, McCleary County. Itched my way through the night last under cover of hemlocks and a ring of poison rhus. Awoke at 1am and terribly restless until 4:30 even feigning packing up and leaving the camp for the walk to town hitch spot. Hoping not to itch my way through tonight and sleep soundly free from thoughts of ticks, ants, and dermatitis causing plants. Whitley is a sprawled out town with a main drag along Hwy 27, though all the amenities of modern america, not to mention a few needlessly. May the itch NOT be with me. Goodnight. |
