I was hiking yesterday with the wife, walked from Holly Bay to the falls. We ran in the same old man with the aggressive dogs. I was nervous, one dog does not scare me but two or more is a different story.

Ha, I just read your account on the following website:

http://www.kywilderness.com/tr/sheltowee/sheltowee.htm

It didn't hit me that you were a poster here till I read about the catalytic converter being removed from your car. Nice story!

Chuck,
Don't tell Boyd but I have been cheating on the Sheltowee site for years with the kywilderness site.

I actually started out posting more over there and found the content here more applicable to "me" because I do about 80% of my hiking on the Sheltowee.

I do like the way kywilderness puts the photos with the story much better.

I am glad you enjoyed the story,
Rick

Welcome POCO!

You set a goal and we'll make your exploits front and center. If you need any tips before you start, we'll help with that too. Everybody has their own specific challenges before tackling a big hike, but it's all about the journey. The more the ST is hiked, biked, or otherwise used, the more it is recognized as a trail that folks want. That's why we're here in my humble opinion.

Good luck and tell us how it goes.

Thanks. I really enjoy to join you group. I found some informtion about your company from wikipedia.. and that is
"The Sheltowee Trace Trail is a 282 miles (453.84 km) National Recreation Trail that was created in 1976 and stretches from Pickett State Park in Tennessee to northern Rowan County, Kentucky. The trail is named after Daniel Boone, who was given the name Sheltowee (meaning "Big Turtle") when he was adopted as the son of the great warrior Chief Blackfish of the Shawnee tribe .

The trail is mostly in the Daniel Boone National Forest, but also takes visitors through the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Natural Bridge State Resort Park, two large recreation lakes (Cave Run Lake and Laurel Lake), and many wildlife management areas. All but the southernmost 10 miles (16.09 km) are in Kentucky.

The trail may be multi-use, in certain sections, allowing horses, mountain bikes and off-road vehicles in some designated sections. Check with the ranger district for local rules if in doubt. Using Off road motorcycles, SUVs, 4x4, ATV's and even mountain bikes in certain areas can result in equipment confiscation and or fines."

I hope you really like it....

I haven't been checking in like I should and noticed my inbox was full. It should have space now. I hope everyone is having a great pre-hike season.
