Welcome!

The Sheltowee Trace is a 260-mile trail through Daniel Boone National Forest. Much of the trail winds through scenic, rugged, and historic geography with much recreational opportunity. The name Sheltowee, the Big Turtle, was given by Chief Blackfish to Daniel Boone when he lived amoung the Shawnee in the 1770's.

The GOAL of this site is to post photographs of every mile of the Sheltowee, which can be easily reference from an interactive map. The map has the Sheltowee Trace with 2-mile markers and interactive layers to download detailed USGS topo maps. In the forum you can post photgraphs. We'll see were this goes...

So how do you begin?

1) Register here

2) Download maps here or through an online map browser:

http://www.sheltoweetrace.com/hi.html is a 1,100 pixel frameset that has the forum on the left and a 2 megabyte map on the right. The map is a Flash 5.0 .swf file that has interactive layers for downloading other maps and data.

1rst interactive layer: 1:32,000 topographic maps of the Sheltowee Trace. Each page is roughly 5 megabytes.

2nd interactive layer: Sites for purchasing maps for Daniel Boone National Forests. If you know other detailed map guides, let me know and I will add them.

Important! The Sheltowee Trace indicated on the map has mile markers for every 2 miles starting at the north terminus. We you refer to a location in a post, use mile markers!

3) Post photos and GPS data.

4) Get back on the trail!

http://www.sheltoweetrace.com/forum is just this forum without frames. For discussion on the map and website, goto: http://www.sheltoweetrace.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2.
