This past weekend, the Hiker Challenge exposed some navigational issues with the Sheltowee Trace at Sinking Creek, north of Hwy 52 or south of Hwy 1036 at mile marker 183 also known as Bald Rock Fork.
Coming south you should take the right trail at the intersection where you see large boulders blocking the trail from ATV use. This seciton goes along the creek to the right.
Coming north off the gravel road which ends down at the creek you will go left at an angle from the creek shore, looking across the creek for the blaze on the tree before you get to the old stone railroad abutements. Once on the shore, go left on the Sheltowee Trace on the old rail line until you come to the boulders and then go left on north.
The other trail leads to the same location but is a climb up the hills and can be used in highwater times. We will get someone down to do a little clearing but the underbrush is not bad and if folks walk this section it will help. See attached photos. |
