Mapping the Sheltowee

For National Trails Day, the Red River Gorge Trail Crew rerouted the first half of the connector trail from the Sheltowee Trace Swinging Bridge parking lot to about 1/2 way to the Sheltowee Trace at the Swinging Bridge. The old tread was in very bad shape and in danger of washing into the river. The new tread has a small "bridge" across a ditch from the parking lot to the new trail and a new trail marking sign - can't miss it! That section of connector trail is used more by people going to the swimming hole and jumping rock than hikers. I was there on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The parking lot was overflowing with people who where there to swim, jump and party.

In your photos I noticed the fellow operating the chainsaw doesn't appear to have hearing protection or chaps. Isn't this a requirement to operate a chainsaw on National Forest lands? It is my understanding if you are chain sawyer certified and are wearing the proper PPE (personal protection equipment) you are covered under the FS workers comp policy if injured. But only if you have the correct PPE.
