Day one of the Sheltowee Trace finds me at Pickett State Park waiting out a crick in my neck that crept up during my last night at Berea College . Not exactly the way I thought I would begin this journey. Setting my hammock up, I tried to sleep the majority of the day away hoping to leave later in the day. Evening came with no relief and brought with it rain and a Tornado warning for the surrounding areas. The park ranger on duty gave me a map and highlighted a cave that everyone was to seek shelter if the need arose. I noticed the common orange color of the
The clouds that are associated with hazardous weather and took some photos of them. It appears that I set up my camp right in the middle of a family reunion. They were very nice about letting me “hang” around all day and later on and were great to talk to later on that night. Among them were Harold Stephens, son of Dewey Stephens, a stone mason that helped to build the bridge at the Cumberland Falls, a part of the Sheltowee Trace.
