Hello,
I'm considering hiking the ST southbound starting October 1st. I've ordered the suggested guides on this site and read some of the posts covering topics for new hikers. I have a few questions of my own...
1) What is general concensus about hiking with your dog on the ST? Leash, no leash, no go?
2) Boyd, where can I get your maps?
Thanks,
Brad |

Hi Boyd,
Thanks for the tips. So regarding the Natural Bridge SRP, can I just go off the trail to KY 11 (or is it 15 ) and walk past it and get back on later?
I picked up the Johnny Molloy book which is great! He mentiones that the last few sections headed northbound "might" be tough because of downed trees, the Forest Service sight shows them as closed, so are they closed that you are aware of?
Moss,
The trail is marked with the turtle blaze in the sections that I've hiked in the RRG. As for maps, boyd set us both up.
Thanks,
Brad |

Nat. Bridge is a hole in the trail for pet hikers. The park's northern boundary is .25 miles up the ST on Whittleton Br....and the park now extends south past Whites Arch.... You could probably make it to KY 11, since you're walking through Whittleton campground, but at KY 11, you might hike up to lodge and see if catch a ride to the top of the hill on KY 11 and walk the county road west to the powerlines where the ST pops out.
You might ask the park rangers if they have a option since I'm sure they've gotten this before...but I wouldn'y hike the road unless I had no other option.

I would start at US 60 if you can have someone drop you off or at the Visitr Center at Cave Run Lake if you need to leave a car. It's a nice mostly unbroken trail from there to Nat. Bridge. North of 60 it's a mess both in terms of downed trees and lack of signage....although you do pass a wal-mart...woohoo!
