Jackson County: Mountain Biking at S-Tree
S-Tree has always been a favorite for mountain biking, and this late summer monday afternoon reminded me why. Twisty double track flows smoothly with little or no trail blockage, thanks to someone's hard work (presumably the local users - the area is VERY popular with ATV'ers). The Renfro loop makes a great warm up before following the Trace north until its time to turn back, either on adjacent roads or the trail itself. The campground can be busy (and dusty / noisy) on the weekends, so a visit during the week is suggested.

Big Limestone to Lakeview Trail at Cave Run Lake, June 25, 2009
More Mountain Biking at Cave Run! Parking at the Shallow Flats goose habitat and riding up FS 9 (Gravel road across from Twin Knobs entrance)past Big Limestone, onto the Sheltowee and back down to Shallow Flats on the Lakeview Trail makes a great, usually dry, loop on the north side of the lake. There was a big tree down blocking the last downhill in a steep area with a difficult walk around (On Lakeview trail), but this is still one of my favorite loops at Cave Run!

Caney Loop at Cave Run Lake, July 9, 2009
Sweet Mountain biking on Eastern Ky's storied Caney Loop. Badly damaged in recent years by its popularity with equestrians, a dry, hot summer week dried up most of the "hoof bogs" and made for great riding. A trashy campsite by the lake is luckily a rare find.

June 20, 2009 - Clear Creek Furnace to Furnace Arch South of Cave Run Lake
Sunny, muggy hike with the dog (Eddie) after some early summer rain. Trail is a little muddy in some of the "horsed out" sections up on the ridge, but the view from the arch is always worth it!

Around Cumberland Falls Area
Sorry I don't have the mile numbers. I hike around Cumberland Falls a lot because I'm from that area. That's how I became aware of the Sheltowee Trace. I intersected it a few times and became curious.

May 31: Sheltowee Trace Northern Terminus
With the help of volunteers from this board, the Sheltowee Trace northern terminus is open and it is a fabulous stretch of trail. Thanks to all that helped clear the trail.

We did this hike in May, 2006. New member to the forum so I thought I'd contribute. This was the first hike for me on the Trace.

Iron Furnace to Furnace Arch March 24 2007
This hike is a favorite of mine because it gets the blood pumping with 500ft vertical at the beginning and the reward is great when you reach the arch. Happy trails!! Approximately miles 45-49 on the STT.
